Jim has tried to do the right thing all his life.  He came west with his

parents after they found out he had Psionic powers.  The trip was long

and hard but they made it to what was the state of Washington.  When he

was 8 or 9 (he can't remember) his parents were both killed by a

rampaging D-bee.  He would have died that winter if a local tribe didn't

take him in.  He stayed with them until his 17th birthday when he left

the tribe to rejoin his own people.  He wandered for a couple of months

before landing a job at the bar-b.  He stayed on at the bar-b until old

man Kessel died.  When his son took over the ranch, Jim was fired on the

spot.  Jim knew it was because of the time he slugged him and dragged

his scrawny hide back to the ranch (on orders from the boss).  With

nothing else to do, he rolled his kit and hit the trail west, just to see

what he could find. 

Eventually he wandered into territory governed by The Center, and his

skills were quickly made use of.  However, the wanderlust started getting

the better of him again, and when he heard the announcement of a team

being formed for a long range exploration mission he was quick to sign up

for it.
