The Jim Gattlin story

The original design for this armor was never meant to look like a bear. Right before the public unveiling there was an accident in the lab. A tech that was running on to little sleep and too much coffie stumbled and dumped a jar of acid on the unit. After cleaning up the acid the techs found that the units casing had been damaged and would have to be replaced. But with the unvaling in less than an hour and a huge crowd gathering they had to find some way to fix it. Finding that there wasn't a spare of the plate they needed they went in search of a new covering. Finding a Smokey the Bear costume in a back closset they quickly fitted it to the frame as best they could. Though it didn't quite fit and wasn't in good of condition the public loved it and the responce was overwhelming.

With the backing of several of the larger traveling merchants and the Oakcorps they were able to produce several more prototypes. While the unit proformed well it was the exterior design that made it popular.

Smokey the Bear Power Armor
Prototype date: PA37
Production date: PA45
Model Type: Oak Bear 1
Class:Oaktech Medium Recon Exo-Skeleton
Crew: One

M.D.C. by Location:
Arms (2) -- 100 each
Legs (2) -- 130 each
*Head -- 80
**Main Body -- 220

*Destroying the head will eliminate all forms of optical enhancement and sensory systems. The pilot must now rely on his or her own vision and senses. No power armour combat bonuses to strike, parry, and dodge! Note: The head is a small and difficult target to hit. Thus it can only be hit when a character makes a called shot and even then the attacker is -3 to strike.

**Depleting the M.D.C. of the main body will shut the armour down completely, making it useless.

Running: 60 mph (96 km) maximum. Not that the act of running does tire out its operator, but at 10% of the usual fatigue rate thanks to the robot exo-skeleton.
Leaping: The powerful robot legs can leap up to 20 feet (6.1m) high or across.
Statistical Data:
Height: 7 feet
Width: 3.5 feet
Length: 3
Weight: 310 lbs
Physical Strength: Equal to a P.S. 30
Cargo: Room 1 rifle, 1 pistol and a surival kit
Power System: Nuclear; average life is 20 years.
Market Cost: 1.5 million credits for the basic unit. Avalible on in the town market

Weapon Systems
1. Vibro Claws: Claws on the hands and feet provide protection and utility needs.
Primary Purpose: Assault
Secondary Purpose: Defense
Mega-Damage: 3D4 per paw.
Range: 3.5 ft

2. Vibro Shovel: A 6 foot vibro shovel comes with the unit.
Primary Purpose: Assault
Secondary Purpose: Defense
Mega-Damage: 3D6
Maximum Range: 9 ft

3. Hand to Hand Combat: Rather than use a weapon, the pilot can engage in mega-damage hand-to-hand combat. See Power Armour Combat Training in the Robot Combat section.

4. Sensor System Note:Smokey the Bear has full optical systems, including laser targeting, telescopic, passive nightvision (light amplification), thermo-imaging, infrared, ultraviolet, and polarization.

Radio Communication:
Long range, directional communication system with an effective range of about 100 miles, as well as a directional, short range radio. Range is 5 miles. Plus a built-in loudspeaker; 80 decibels.

Voice Actuated Locking System:
The hatches are sealed by an automatic locking system. A six digit spoken code programmed to a specific voice(s) pattern (six voice memory) is standard operating procedure. A manual key pad is provided in cas e of system failure/override.

Complete Environmental System:
A mega-damage compartment that is air tight, pressurized and suitable for use in all hostile environments, including under water (500 foot max. depth) and space. The following features are included.
Computer controlled life-support system.
Internal cooling and temperature control.
Computer controlled, independent oxygen supply and purge system that automatically engages in low oxygen or contaminated air environments.
Eight hour oxygen supply.
Insulated, high temperature resistant shielding for up to 350 degrees centigrade. Normal fires do no damage. Nuclear, plasma, and magic fires do full damage.
Radiation shielded.
Polarized and light sensitive/adjusting tinted visor.
